Another Chubby Chick co-owner Deon Fourie, 55, died in the hospital on Sunday, 14 December 2025 after succumbing to injuries sustained in a shooting that occurred at the company’s Potchefstroom headquarters on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Fourie has passed away after fighting for his life for weeks in hospital.
His passing comes shortly after the passing of his brother Johnathan Robert Fourie, 52, who died on the scene.
North West police has placed a 73-year-old suspect is under their guard in hospital, following the murder of the two brothers who were running a South African poultry and meat outlet that sells chicken products and other locally-sourced goods.
Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said it is alleged that the 73-year-old man was in a meeting with the business management, when he suddenly took out a firearm and fired several shots towards the brothers.
Security personnel reacted and restrained the 73-year-old man after being shot.
City Report understands that the meeting was in relation tova property transaction. After the meeting, the suspect left and returned approximately 30 minutes later, allegedly shooting Deon multiple times in the boardroom.
“Johnathen was declared dead on the scene by Emergency and Medical Services (EMS), whilst his 55-year-old brother was admitted to hospital,” said Myburgh.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder, soon after being released from the hospital.
