Two community members of Khuma township in the City of Matlosana Local Municipality, Neo Boitumelo Marumole and Thabiso McDonald Matlapeng were shot and killed near Flamingo shop (Flamingo Butchery) on Thursday, 12 February 2026, after participating in a service delivery protest.
Residents from the same township embarked on a protest related to lack of service delivery, unemployment and infrastructure and other things, on the same day.
The North West police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh has confirmed that Khuma police officers are investigating a double murder case after a shooting incident was reported on Thursday after 19:00.
“According to information received there was a shooting incident reported at Mosala street near supermarket. When police arrived on the scene they found two victims, one aged 47 and the other one 41, and both males that were shot multiple times.

“The Emergency Medical Services were contacted and declared both victims dead on the scene. At this stage investigations are continuing and the police request anyone with information to contact the Detective Branch Commander, which is Captain Kgopotso Motsimi on 060 987 8448,” said Myburgh.
The families of Marumole and Matlapeng have officially confirmed the passing of their sons Neo and Thabiso on Friday, 13 February 2026.
Marumole family spokesperson Thanda Marumole described Neo as a cherished son, brother, father, family member and friend whose kindness, strength and love touched everyone who knew him.
“We are deeply grateful for outpouring of support and prayers during this difficult time.
“Details regarding memorial services will be shared soon,” said Marumole.
The family has asked for privacy as they are mourning this “tremendous loss.”
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of Matlapeng family, Palesa Matlapeng described her brother as a dedicated and compassionate servant who was always ready to lend a helping hand.
“With heavy hearts, we assemble and remember a man who was a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend to many.
“He served his community with dedication and compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand and make a difference,” said Palesa.
Palesa indicated that the family will remember his laughter and support. According to the Matlapeng family, Thabiso was born in 1977, which makes him 49, contrary to the given age by the officials.
