For many, birthdays are a time for cake, gifts, and celebration with friends and family. But for Lethlogonolo Khaba, a 37-year-old presenter at Star FM, this year’s special day was about giving — and giving from the heart.
On 9 August 2025, Khaba chose to spend his birthday with over 20 children at the Khotsong House Shelter, an orphanage he has worked closely with through his non-profit organisation, Thusang Bokamoso Jwa Lefatshe Foundation. His goal was simple: to put smiles on the faces of children who often go without, and to remind the community that giving back doesn’t require wealth — just willingness.
Khaba’s inspiration for the celebration goes back to 2016, when he first registered his foundation with the Department of Social Development. “One morning on my birthday, I woke up with the thought that I wanted to celebrate with street kids. That idea has stayed with me ever since,” he said. Over the years, his foundation has been donating food and clothes to orphanages, including Khotsong House Shelter, which relies entirely on donations to care for its children.
Khaba’s birthday was about giving, not receiving. With friends’ help, he provided lunch, school shoes, clothes, and a jumping castle, delighting over 20 children — and even kids from the streets joined in.
“You don’t need to be rich to make a difference. Small acts of kindness matter,” he said, hoping to inspire others.
