CSS Security CEO responds to Nche family

CSS Security has distanced itself from the incident of 1 August 2025 that took place near Orkney Hoerskool on Thursday.

This comes after Tebogo Nche, father of Bulelwa Kulata from Kanana near Orkney, shared his disappointment on the alllege reckless and irresponsible conduct by CSS Security company and Anti-Hi-Jack personnel.

With video footage seen by a City Report journalist, showing that on 1 August 2025, Bulelwa was among learners who were waiting for their transport next to the premises of the Orkney school.

While waiting for her transport to pick her up at school, Orkney Hoerskool pupil Bulelwa was allegedly injured by a CSS Security guard on her ankle and foot on 1 August 2025. One of the security personnel allegedly threw a stun grenade at the learners which landed next to Bulelwa’s left leg.

Nche confirmed that a case of assault has since been opened awaiting medical report.

“As a family we hope and trust that the law will be observed. We are further disturbed by the unchanged behaviour and responses to sounds by our daughter since the incident.

“Whenever she has a sound like bang she jumps and sometimes cries at night. This is not normal and we have resorted to seek further medical consultation as we think she is traumatized by the incident,” said Nche.

The CSS Security chief executive officer (CEO) Oskin Chatwind said the company’s officers do not carry, nor does the company stock, any form of stun grenades.

“We acknowledge with concern that our security personnel were present in the vicinity on the day in question. However, they did not act in a manner that could have caused the reported injury to the learner. We regret that the incident occurred and are saddened by the distress experienced by the family.

“It is important to note that on that day, there were multiple security companies present as part of a Community Security Awareness Campaign. During the event, a complaint was received that a crowd had become unruly at the school premises.

“In response, all available security members, including CSS Security, attended to assist. The South African Police Service (SAPS) was also contacted and was present on scene,” said Oskin.

With regard to the SAPS investigation (CAS 28/8/2025), CSS Security’s management said they are fully open and willing to engage with the investigating officer, Sgt. MD Molusi.

“We are committed to cooperating and will provide any information required to assist in establishing the facts of the matter.

“In addition, CSS Security has resolved to commission an independent outside party to conduct a full internal investigation into the incident. This will ensure transparency, objectivity, and accountability in understanding exactly what transpired,” said Oskin.
