North West Premier, Lazarus Mokgosi has committed to repairing the internal road in Khuma township near Stilfontein, which prohibits Dirang Ka Natla Comprehensive School pupils from attending school and residents to run their daily errands during the rainy season.
During the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Thuntsha Lerole Phase 5 in Matlosana Local Municipality, Mokgosi indicated that the government will monitor the progress of the newly constructed paved roads and fix the affected road.
“We appreciate the completion of the paved road; however, we have not included in the project the road which gets water locked during the rainy season. Through the City of Matlosana, there will be re-allocation of resources and proper planning so that we resolve this matter permanently,” said Mokgosi.
Premier spokesperson Sello Tatai confirmed Mokgosi, who was accompanied by the Executive Mayors of Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, Cllr Nikiwe Num and City of Matlosana Local Municipality, Cllr Fikile Mahlope was handing over the Phase 1 of a newly constructed two (2) kilometre paved road and storm water project in Khuma Ext.32 & 39, funded through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant – MIG.
“The handover was part of the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Thuntsha Lerole Phase 5 in Matlosana Local Municipality. Residents of Khuma Township expressed their gratitude as government officially handed over the paved road and storm water project saying it has given their area a facelift,” said Tatai.

Mokgosi indicated that even though residents are delighted about the completed road, the problematic section, which was not part of Phase 1, must be constructed soonest.
Residents further expressed their joy, that a problematic section of the road will now receive attention.
The project forms part of government’s ongoing efforts to resolve service delivery backlogs in various communities across the province through the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Thuntsha Lerole.
Among other projects, on Friday, 19 September 2025, Department of Human Settlements, in partnership with the City of Matlosana Local Municipality, provided decent housing for military veterans through the Military Veterans Housing Project in Tigane.
This initiative underscores the government’s efforts to prioritize the needs of military veterans by ensuring they live in decent, quality homes. It forms part of the broader human settlements mandate to create sustainable, integrated communities within the North West Province.
Gcinisipho Trading (Pty) Ltd was appointed to construct 10 housing units for military veterans in the municipality.

Three housing units were built in Tigane (Wards 1 and 2) and have been fully completed.
“These homes were officially handed during the Provincial Thuntsha Lerole Programme. Seven units are under construction in Jouberton Extension 31 and 34 (Wards 14 and 6), progressing well and anticipated to be completed by the end of October 2025.
“The handover ceremony was led by Premier Lazarus Mokgosi, accompanied by Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Mayor, Cllr Nikiwe Num, and the Executive Mayor of the City of Matlosana, Cllr Fikile Mahlophe. The dignitaries emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring dignity to military veterans who served the nation with dedication.”
The Department of Human Settlements aims to address the housing backlog and provide quality housing for all, including military veterans.
