Chillas clinch crown in spectacular Silo Tournament triumph

The inaugural Annual Silo Tournament delivered a weekend of exceptional football, youth talent, and vibrant community spirit at the Vaal Reefs Sports Ground on 3 and 4 October 2026.

Supported by China Africa Precious Metals (CAPM), the highly anticipated event united local football teams and emerging young athletes for two days filled with fierce competition, unwavering determination, and unforgettable sporting moments on the pitch.

The tournament successfully established a powerful platform for local talent to showcase their skills, allowing players and spectators to connect deeply through the universal language of sport while celebrating community solidarity.

In a thrilling conclusion to the weekend’s festivities, Chillas secured the coveted championship title in dominant fashion, walking away with a spectacular 4–0 victory over Madrid in the final match.

Organisers extended their heartfelt congratulations to every single participating squad that contributed to the success and high energy of the action-packed weekend.

The landmark event stands as a powerful testament to the impact of investing in the youth, reinforcing how football can serve as a driving force to bring people together and uplift local communities.

Meanwhile the safety milestone achieved by CAPM African Precious Metals shines a spotlight on an operation with a deep-rooted history in the region’s mining landscape. The CAPM Mine primarily encompasses the historic Orkney Gold Mine operations, which includes the prominent Tau Mine, formerly known as Tau Lekoa.

Situated within the gold-rich Witwatersrand basin of the North West Province, South Africa, these vital mining assets are owned and managed by China Africa Precious Metals (CAPM), a corporate entity heavily backed by China’s influential Pengxin Mining.

The recent triumph in safety marks a defining chapter for the Matlosana-based operation, which has worked intensely to reshape its industrial legacy. In a powerful declaration of the sanctity of workers’ lives, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has strongly reaffirmed its commitment to the principle of “Zero Harm,” holding up the CAPM Tau Mine as a benchmark for the rest of the sector.

Addressing a mass gathering of workers on April 18, 2026, NUM National Health and Safety Secretary, Comrade Masibulele Naki, lauded the entire workforce for successfully reaching the monumental threshold of One Million Fatality-Free Shifts. Naki emphasized that this milestone stands as a crucial beacon of hope in an industry historically marred by peril and severe underground hazards.

The union noted that this achievement serves as undeniable proof that through rigorous corporate vigilance, strict compliance, and collective worker action, the tide is turning toward a safer future for South African mining.
