The North West Media Awards founder Ananias Ndlovu pronounced their partnership with the North West University (NWU) as a way of empowering and uplifting community media in the North West province. Ndlovu indicated that this is a major milestone to partner with the University to uplift the struggling media in the province, especially community media.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Bismark Tyobeka, including the University’s top management will have an opportunity to present awards to some of the winners who will also walk away with cash prizes in recognition of their excellence in journalism and communication.
“This partnership will see the University, together with the Awards and the winners, engage in media and communication workshops to uplift the standard of media in the province,” said Ndlovu.
The NWMA spokesperson Berlina Lekgethwane confirmed the university serve as the headline sponsor for the 2025 edition of the awards.
“This partnership marks an important step in building stronger ties between the University and the media sector in the North West Province.

“It will create more opportunities for collaboration between journalism and communication students, media houses, government departments, and the private sector,” Lekgethwane.
Lekgethwane emphasised that through the announced partnership, media practitioners will also benefit from expert insights and analysis provided by NWU academics across various fields, enriching the quality of media reporting and public discourse in the province.
The North West Media Awards 2025 are expected to take place on 05 December 2025 at the Rustenburg Civic Centre.
Since 2021, the awards continues to celebrate the best in journalism, photography, broadcasting, and digital storytelling across the province.
