The Local Economic Development (LED) Directorate in the City of Matlosana Local Municipality has acknowledged essential equipment handed over to local Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) in Kanana township near Orkney on Wednesday, 22 April 2026. As a powerful way of stimulating economic growth and empower communities, donations to the heartbeat of the community – SMMEs helps them to survive and thrive in tough economic conditions.
Speaking to City Report, Assistant Director for the Local Economic Development, Tebogo Ramone said efforts of the Bokamoso Sola Project in empowering local communities through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programmes are encouraging.
Ramone said the initiative aligns well with the municipality’s strategic objectives of promoting inclusive economic growth, supporting SMME development, and ensuring that local communities benefit from investments taking place within their area.
“As the LED Department, we view this contribution as more than just a once-off donation, but as a catalyst for long-term economic participation, skills development, and enterprise growth. It is encouraging to see private sector partners such as Bokamoso Solar taking an active role in uplifting local entrepreneurs and strengthening the township economy.
“We further encourage that such initiatives be sustained and expanded to other areas within Matlosana, ensuring broader impact and equitable development across all communities,” said Ramone.
The program was attended by the MMC, Cllr Wesley Kgang, Bokamoso Solar Project Manager, Lerato Kgwele Bokamoso Solar Community Operations Officer, K Dipitse, Project Manager Ms, Local beneficiaries and LED Team.
Kgang has called for the extension of such programmes so that they benefit other townships of Matlosana.
“We would like to sincerely thank Bokamoso Solar for their continued investment in our communities. This initiative speaks directly to our mandate of empowering local SMMEs and
stimulating economic growth. We encourage that such programmes do not only benefit Kanana, but are extended to other areas within Matlosana so that more communities can experience similar opportunities,” said Kgang.

The Bokamoso Solar Project remains one of the key renewable energy investments within Matlosana, contributing not only to energy generation but also to socio-economic development through skills development, local procurement, and community upliftment initiatives.
Bokamoso has previously announced a percentage of the revenue generated each year will be committed to implementing Enterprise Development (EnD) initiatives, to build resilience and accelerate the growth and success of entrepreneurial businesses, ultimately stimulating the local economic growth and creating opportunities for the economic participation of previously disadvantaged groups.
“Bokamoso Solar will commit 80% of the obligation to Flagship Projects and 20% to smaller initiatives. The EnD Programme will work with local businesses, with a focus on small and micro enterprises (SMMEs), designed to enhance growth. The establishment of a local resource centre, for use by local SMMEs and communities at large will support this drive to support development, whilst the provision of accredited skills training will be provided to start-up businesses.”
