With the likes of the athletes Tete Dijana, Vincent Seboko (chairperson of the N12 Ultra Marathon)and others, the City of Matlosana is proud to announce the successful hosting of the North West N12 Ultra Marathon, which took place on Saturday 04 October 2025 at Klerksdorp Recreation Centre.
Acting Executive Mayor of the City of Matlosana, Cllr Wesley Kgang, officially welcomed athletes and participants from Matlosana, across South Africa, and the Kingdom of Lesotho.
In his address, Cllr Kgang emphasized the significance of the marathon, noting that it not only promotes a culture of healthy living, but also strengthens sports tourism as a catalyst for economic growth and development in the city.
The event was further graced by the presence of the MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Hon. Oageng Saliva Molapisi, who delivered a message of support, highlighting the importance of collaboration in advancing community well-being through sport.
The Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) served as the main sponsor of this year’s marathon, reaffirming its commitment to developing sports and nurturing talent within the province.
The event featured two exciting race categories: a 21 km race and a 5 km race, both of which drew an enthusiastic turnout of athletes and community members.
“Congratulations go to Mr. Nkoka Lebenya from Lesotho, who claimed victory in the 21 km men’s race, and to Ms. Kebogile Motshabi, representing Pan African Resources, who secured first place in the 21 km women’s race.
In the 5 km category, Mr. Keano Domingo of North West University emerged as the men’s winner, while Ms. Liandri Kriel, representing Boxer Supermarket, took top honours in the women’s race,” municipal spokesperson Ntswaki Makgetha.
Makgetha said the City of Matlosana expresses its gratitude to all athletes, stakeholders, and partners who contributed to making the 2025 edition of the North West N12 Ultra Marathon a resounding success.
