A community newspaper serving Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp, Potchefstroom Herald, under the ownership of Mooivaal Media has recently announced the appointment of the North West University (NWU) graduate, Wouter Pienaar as the new editor.
Before he relocated to Potchefstroom and joined Potch Herald, Pienaar served as the news editor for the NWU Student24/7 which was a campus based newspaper.
His work frequently involves local reporting, including interviews with various community members. Pienaar has demonstrated that he is passionate about local media and brings a decade of experience to the table.
“Potchefstroom is a town rich in heritage and character and I look forward to ensuring that the Potchefstroom Herald remains a credible, relevant and vibrant voice of the community,” said Pienaar.
The publication has confirmed that Pienaar joins the newsroom after two years in a management role where he further developed his leadership, strategic planning and digital communication skills.

Pienaar believes the future of local journalism lies in balancing editorial integrity with digital innovation, while maintaining meaningful community connections.
His editorial focus will be on preserving the Herald’s trusted legacy while adapting to how audiences consume news.
