KHUMA – The City of Matlosana Local Municipality, through its Local Economic Development (LED) Directorate, partnered with Naos Solar Project and Go Big Media to commemorate Mandela Day by dedicating 67 minutes of service to vulnerable community members on Friday, 17 July 2026.
The joint initiative benefited the Mohau Disability Centre in Khuma and the Folang Disability Centre in Kanana.
This outreach forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to strengthening public-private partnerships through Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programmes.
During the visit, the partners donated essential items to both facilities, including chairs, foldable tables, blankets, and food hampers. Following a physical inspection of the Mohau Disability Centre, Go Big Media extended further support by donating a gas stove and a gas cylinder to assist with the centre’s daily cooking operations.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Local Economic Development, Cllr Wesley Kgang, expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for their generosity and reaffirmed the local government’s long-term commitment to community development.
“Mandela Day reminds us that service to humanity should not be limited to one day,” said Cllr Kgang. “Together with our stakeholders, we remain committed to making a positive difference in our communities throughout the year because Mandela Day is every day.”
The collaborative effort highlighted the profound impact of public-private partnerships in addressing local community needs.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, project coordinators emphasized that the donations and renovations would drastically improve daily operations at the facilities, ensuring a more dignified and enriching environment for the children.
Meanwhile, the LED Directorate’s simultaneous intervention at the Matlosana Fresh Produce Market was equally praised by local business owners. Traders noted that the cleanup not only restored pride in the local hub but also reinforced the municipality’s commitment to boosting economic growth by maintaining hygienic trading conditions.
As the day’s events concluded, municipal leaders urged other corporate entities and civil society organizations to join hands with the local government. They stressed that community upliftment should not be confined to a single day, but should remain a continuous mission to bridge social gaps and foster a more inclusive society for all residents of Matlosana.
