MAHIKENG – The North West Provincial Legislature’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) has officially elected Honourable Motlalepula Rosho as its new Chairperson on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.

The high-profile election, presided over by the Secretary of the Legislature, Adv. Innocent Netshitumbu, follows a recent review of the African National Congress (ANC) committee membership. This restructuring was executed in accordance with Rule 152 of the Standing Rules of the North West Provincial Legislature, following official publication in the Provincial Gazette by the Speaker on 6 August 2026.

The committee is expected to continue to focus on strengthening accountability, promoting responsible management of public finances and ensuring that government programmers and services deliver value and tangible outcomes for the people of the North West.

In an impactful acceptance speech, Rosho wasted no time laying down her vision for the watchdog committee, calling for immediate cross-party unity and aggressive financial oversight.

“I accept this responsibility with a clear understanding that SCOPA’s work is a collective responsibility,” Rosho stated.

“We must work together across political party lines, guided by our shared commitment to serving the people of the North West and ensuring that public resources are used responsibly and effectively.”

The newly elected Chairperson pledged to significantly strengthen the committee’s oversight capabilities, sending a clear warning to the Executive that public funds must be strictly accounted for. She stressed that fiscal discipline must directly result in better living conditions for local residents.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that accountability is not merely a principle, but something that our communities can see and experience through improved service delivery,” Rosho emphasised. “We will continue to exercise robust oversight and ensure that government delivers quality, effective services that make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people.”
Reaffirming her commitment to a collaborative, multi-party approach, Hon. Rosho concluded by promising that SCOPA will aggressively fulfil its constitutional mandate to protect public resources and enforce government accountability across the province.
