ActionSA sharpens local leaders ahead of 2026 elections

POTCHEFSTROOM — ActionSA is accelerating its preparations for the upcoming Local Government Elections by equipping its next generation of leaders with the skills needed for ethical public service.

The ActionSA JB Marks Constituency successfully hosted its Aspirant Ward Councillor Candidates Workshop in Potchefstroom on Saturday, 25 July 2026. The strategic session focused heavily on preparing capable, ethical, and community-centred leaders to contest the upcoming municipal polls.

The training focused on key areas, including: election readiness; the constitutional role and responsibilities of a ward councillor; ethical leadership and accountability; transparency in governance; respect for the rule of law and putting communities before personal interests.

The workshop drew high-level internal backing, featuring key addresses from the party Provincial Campaigns Manager, Legabe and the JB Marks Constituency Leader, Xolile David Kham.

“Mr Legabe and Mr Xolile David Kham encouraged aspirant candidates to become role models within their communities by rejecting corruption, remaining accountable to residents, respecting the Constitution and the rule of law, and ensuring that every action reflects the values of ethical leadership and public service.

“As the 2026 Local Government Elections approach, ActionSA remains committed to equipping its candidates with the knowledge, skills, and values required to deliver responsive, ethical, and effective leadership for all residents,” said the party in a statement.

A central theme of the workshop was a reminder of the core responsibilities of local governance. Organisers stressed that earning a seat as a ward councillor is not a path to personal interest, political status, or financial gain. Instead, candidate performance and governance must be anchored entirely in integrity, humility, and dedication.

Speakers reminded the aspirants that councillors hold the direct confidence of their communities. They must honour that trust through absolute transparency and responsible decision-making.

As the 2026 election cycle intensifies, the JB Marks Constituency reaffirmed its promise to field candidates who offer a distinct alternative to traditional politics. The party stated that its ultimate goal remains restoring public confidence in local government through strict accountability, ethical governance, and a strict people-first approach.
