The uMkhonto weSizwe Party announced the decision to expel senior members Pumlani Kubukeli and Dr. Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala with immediate effect, launching formal steps to remove both politicians from the National Assembly on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The Office of the President stated that the actions and conduct of the two members harmed the reputation, integrity, and unity of the organization.
Party leadership determined that their behavior broke internal discipline and went against the core interests of the party.
The sweeping decision relies on Section 7(2)(h) of the MK Party Constitution. This section gives the President the executive power to remove deployees and restructure party organs to protect the strategic direction of the organization.
National spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu confirmed that the party’s Secretary-General has already contacted the Speaker of the National Assembly. This formal letter starts the process to remove Kubukeli and Litchfield-Tshabalala from parliament.
Mahlangu emphasized that the organization demands strict adherence to its constitution and expects all members to uphold discipline and comradeship. The party concluded its official statement by wishing both former members well in their future endeavors.
“The Party reiterates its commitment to organisational unity, discipline and integrity. All members and structures are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the Party Constitution in the interests of unity and comradeship.
“The Office of the President wishes Mr. Kubukeli and Dr. Litchfield-Tshabalala well in their future endeavours,” said Mahlangu.
