The City of Matlosana Local Municipality marked Heritage Month with a lively Heritage Family Fun Day hosted by the Speaker of Council, Cllr Stella Mondlane-Ngwenya, at Alabama Stadium on Friday, 25 September 2026.
Centred around the theme, “Celebrating Our Living Cultural Heritage, Strengthening the Ties That Bind Us,” the event brought residents together through sports, local arts, and family entertainment.

The day featured competitive soccer and netball tournaments, a dedicated kiddies’ corner, and vibrant performances by local traditional dancers, DJs, and a special appearance by the national musical artist Kaylow.
Addressing the crowd, Mondlane-Ngwenya highlighted the event’s core mission to foster social cohesion and mutual respect. She explained that the celebration was designed to encourage local communities to learn to coexist, celebrating the unique traditions and family bonds that connect everyone across their cultural differences.

Mondlane-Ngwenya urged residents to fully embrace the richness of Matlosana’s diverse cultural landscape, encouraging families to enjoy the festivities while standing together as one unified community.
Beyond cultural expression, the day served as an important economic platform, allowing local Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) to set up stalls and showcase their creative products and services to attendees.
The successful execution of the Heritage Family Fun Day was heavily supported by local businesses and corporate partners, reflecting strong cooperation between the municipality and the private sector.
Matlosana expressed deep appreciation to corporate sponsors WBHO and Solar Group, who donated complete soccer and netball kits for all participating sports teams.

The municipality also extended its gratitude to Samson Johnson, Kopanang Mine, MINROC, Spur Cyber Lynx, and Volkswagen (VW) for their valuable contributions.
The municipality noted that these ongoing private-sector partnerships remain vital in driving community development and supporting social initiatives across the region.
“The Municipality values these partnerships and acknowledges the important role that the private sector continues to play in supporting community development,” said the municipality in a statement.
