Matlosana Municipality empowers SMMEs with vital equipment handover

KLERKSDORP – In a decisive move to stimulate the local economy and curb unemployment, the City of Matlosana, through its Local Economic Development (LED) unit, officially handed over essential business assets to local entrepreneurs on Tuesday, 30 June 2026.

The handover ceremony marked the culmination of the 2025/26 Municipal SMME and Cooperative Grant Programme. Under this initiative, the municipality opts to provide physical, productive equipment instead of direct cash injections.

This strategy ensures that the resources are utilized directly to boost operational capacity, long-term growth, and business sustainability.

This year’s programme targeted eleven beneficiaries operating across five priority economic sectors: Creative Arts, Agriculture and Agro-processing, Tourism, ICT, and Manufacturing.

Empowering Local Enterprises

The selected small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and cooperatives represent a diverse mix of local industries. The 2025/26 beneficiaries include:

  • BuddySoft ICT
  • Legwase Solutions
  • She Beauty Salon
  • Bojosi Traders
  • Thankhim Industrial
  • QuickPro Express
  • Dega Munchies
  • Nexus Digital Hub
  • LL IT Services
  • Shalama Primary Coop
  • Thebe Ya Merafe Coop

Accountability and Long-Term Support

The municipality’s involvement does not end with the physical handover. To safeguard the investment and measure its direct impact on the community, the LED unit will strictly monitor these businesses over a two-year period.

This oversight will evaluate business growth, financial sustainability, employment creation, proper equipment usage, and general regulatory compliance.

Speaking at the event, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Local Economic Development, Cllr Wesley Kgang, emphasized that the grant programme is a direct investment into the city’s future.

The municipality’s economic empowerment initiative has drawn high praise from local business leader Mogorosi Legwase.

Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, the Khuma entrepreneur and Legwase Solutions director commended the municipal Local Economic Development (LED) unit for driving enterprise growth.

“We are grateful for what the municipality has done for us,” said Legwase. “The operational equipment I received is going to directly assist my business.”

He concluded by stating that the proactive program equips local small and medium enterprises (SMMEs) with essential assets rather than cash grants to ensure long-term commercial sustainability.
