Soweto giants sign new players for a new season

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates confirmed overten new signings by Tuesday as the two clubs continue their rebuild for the upcoming season.

As the most popular club in South Africa, Chiefs are in a constant battle to sign the best players, especially since they have now gone two seasons in a row without finishing in the top eight in the league.

Chiefs took a blow in the race for the top signatures of Oswin Appollis on Wednesday, as fellow Soweto Giants Orlando Pirates bagged the services of the winger. However, Chiefs have confirmed the signing of Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva and Nkanyiso Shina ahead of the new season. The 26-year-old Chislett joins Chiefs from English League Two outfit Port Vale.

The attacking midfielder could be a good fit for Chiefs in their quest to move up the table next season.

In Silva, Chiefs have gone for an experienced Portuguese striker. The 29-year-old has spent the last couple of seasons in Indonesia, the first coming for Persik Kediri as he scored 30 goals in 45 matches. His next move to Persebaya Surabya did not pan out well, and the change of scenery as he arrived at Naturena could make a big difference.

For Shinga, the move from FC Alverca in Portugal could also be a good one for the 25-year-old. The defender could prove especially vital for Chiefs who were tied for the third worst defence in the Betway Premiership last season.

Meanwhile, Pirates have brought in Sipho Mbule, Sihle Nduli, Tshepo Mashiloane, Yanela Mbuthuma, S i n o x o l o K w a y i b a , M a s i n d i Nemtajela, Tshepang Moremi, and Nkosikhona Ndaba with Malian midfielder Abdoulaye Mariko also already at the club.

One signing of interest for Bucs is Sinoxolo Kwayiba, who has made the switch after spending two years at Chippa United.

Kwayiba plays in midfield with his function in attacking spaces, which allows him to have an influence in the creation and scoring of goals.

That ability has not only won him that big move to the Soweto giants but already attracted Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos’ eye of wisdom. City Report has since gathered Pirates’ bill for Kwayiba willcome to R7 million.

This transfer fee will carry a sell-on percentage for Pretoria Callies –t h e M o t s e p e F o u n d a t i o n C h a m p i o n s h i p club from where Chippa signed him t w o y e a r s a g o .

Kwayiba has signed a three-year contrac twith the club, which improves on what he was earning at the Chilli Boys.

The 25-year-old will hope the move to Pirates e n a b l e s  h i m t o k e e p establishing himself in the Bafana squad.
