Effective non-profit organization Kgorogo Social Investments continues to invest in communities through impactful partnerships by empowering pupils of the City of Matlosana Local Municipality.
Kgorogo Social Investments hosted a successful Lego Robotics training at the Khuma Transnet Community Centre on Thursday, 17 July 2025.
The event provided a platform for stakeholders from various organisations to collaborate and support the development of young minds.
The training session brought together 21 dedicated and talented trainees from local primary schools like Hata-Butle Primary School, Nozizwe Primary School, and Tukisang Primary School to showcase their skills and knowledge.
The training session was conducted by a team of young facilitators who are part of the Science Shop programme, the North West University Science Centre initiative that empowers young people with STEM skills.
“These facilitators, previously not in education, employment, or training (NEET) individuals, were equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively guide the trainees in Lego Robotics.”
This initiative is a testament to our commitment to empowering the next generation with essential skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)” said member of centre management, Palesa Lehasa.
Speaking to City Report, Kgorogo Social Investments Executive Director, Pinampi Maano said the training and competition “serves as a catalyst for innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills among young people. We loom forward to contributing our support for initiatives that foster the growth and development of our youth.”
LEGO Robotics encompasses the educational and recreational use of LEGO sets to build and program robots. These sets, particularly LEGO MINDSTORMS and LEGO Education SPIKE Prime, allow users to design, construct, and code interactive models using programmable bricks, motors, sensors, and LEGO elements. The focus is on developing STEM skills (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through hands-on, creative play.
