The political leadership of the North West has drawn a line in the sand regarding public spending, committing to absolute accountability following the Auditor-General’s latest review.
Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon Viola Ntsetsao Motsumi, joined forces with Premier Hon Lazarus Mokgosi and Provincial Treasury MEC Hon Kenetswe Mosenogi at the Sun City Resort for the Auditor-General of South Africa’s 2025/26 PFMA Roadshow on Friday, 04 September 2026.
Led by Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke, the high-level engagement presented the province’s Public Finance Management Act audit outcomes to a critical audience of political leaders, accounting officers, chief financial officers, and oversight bodies.
The unified presence of the Speaker Motsumi, Premier Mokgosi, and Treasury MEC Mosenogi served as a deliberate demonstration of political solidarity in confronting the province’s financial performance.
Motsumi emphasised that accountability sits at the absolute heart of good governance, noting that the roadshow is a vital mechanism for strengthening oversight, promoting the responsible use of public resources, and restoring public trust in government institutions.
She stressed that audit outcomes represent far more than mere figures on a spreadsheet, pointing out that these numbers directly impact the delivery of essential services such as classrooms, clinics, and roads.
“This roadshow strengthens oversight, promotes responsible use of public resources and builds public confidence in government. Audit outcomes are not just numbers; they are about service delivery, about classrooms, clinics and roads. As the Legislature, we will ensure that findings are not just noted, but that consequence management and credible improvement plans are implemented and tracked through our Portfolio Committees,” said Hon Motsumi.
Moving forward, the North West Provincial Legislature is shifting from commitment to direct action to ensure financial findings face strict consequences. Motsumi confirmed that legislature portfolio committees will actively track and implement credible improvement plans and consequence management rather than simply noting the Auditor-General’s report.
To enforce this, the legislature will immediately schedule dedicated oversight sessions with affected departments, table the report for intense committee scrutiny, and publish a quarterly audit accountability tracker to keep the public informed of progress.
