The DR Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality in partnership with the Department of Employment and Labour, and KST Multimedia, have officially launched an initiative aimed at enhancing media skills and employment opportunities for vulnerable communities in the region.
The program is a public private partnership (PPP) between the three institutions that are going to offer media skills to 200 young people from both the City of Matlosana and JB Marks Local Municipalities. On Monday, August 25, 2025, young people from the City of Matlosana area received the first step of attaining media skills through an induction programme detailing how the project will unfold.
Official training classes start on Monday, September 1, 2025 and will run for six months, ending in February 2026 for both groups from Matlosana (100) and JB Marks (100).
KST Multimedia will be responsible for the training in the disciplines of Studio Production, Photography, and Film & Television production. Students will also receive a monthly stipend of R2 000,00 for the duration of the training period, with class schedules and localities designed to eliminate unnecessary travelling expenses.
“The Department of Employment and Labour has appointed KST Media to implement the accredited training, and we will foot the bill accordingly” said Ms Gopane from the Employment and Labour UIF section.
The municipality indicated that they are committed to fostering growth and opportunities within a community by teaching practical, vocational, and life skills that enable individuals to become more self-sufficient and contribute positively to their society.
“The Executive Mayor’s Office, under the leadership of Cllr Num views this project as one of the government’s initiatives that are playing a positive role in curbing the lack of skills and unemployment within the District.
Our hope is that after this skills program, these fortunate young people would have attained critical skills that may help them establish their own businesses in the media sector” said Chief of Staff Xolani Mndaweni during the induction programme held at the City of Matlosana Banquet Hall in Klerksdorp.
