Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr said former Mamelodi Sundowns player Lebohang Maboe is a Lebo is a quality player who has gained valuable experience in continental competitions over the past few years, on Tuesday, 26 August 2025.
Marking their 10th acquisition of the current season, Amakhosi have officially signed midfielder Maboe, on Tuesday. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder is SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Maritzburg United.
Maboe, who was part of the Club’s youth development academy during his teenage years, returns to Naturena with 13 caps for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana. Over the course of his distinguished career in the Premier Soccer League, he has collected several trophies and accolades.
“We know Lebo is a quality player who has gained valuable experience in continental competitions over the past few years. His expertise will be crucial for us in both the domestic league and the CAF Confederation Cup. We’re pleased to welcome him back to Amakhosi. He was here and knows the culture and what our supporters expect from our players,” says Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr.
Motaung is also impressed by young players like Aden McCarthy, who has stepped up in the first team.
“Very proud of Aden,” said Motaung on SuperSport TV.
“Aden to be very fair, you know he’s very important, he keeps his head in the ground and people around him.
“But he comes from a royalty, football bloodline that is top.
“I mean, I was lucky enough to play with his father, but he’s taking his chance, Aden.
“I think right now, chances are very few and far between. There’s a lot of competition within the group, so if you have your chance, you must grab it and you have to leave that jersey in a better place than how you found it.
“He’s taken his chance it’s only three games, I think let’s talk at the end of May.”
