North West police has placed a 73-year-old suspect is under their guard in hospital, following the alleged murder of Johnathen Robbert Fourie, 52, and the attempted murder of his 55-year-old brother.
This comes after the two brothers from the South African poultry and meat outlet that sells chicken products and other locally-sourced goods, Chubby Chick in Potchefstroom were shot on the company premises on Monday morning, November 10, 2025.
Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said it is alleged that the 73-year-old man was in a meeting with the business management, when he suddenly took out a firearm and fired several shots towards the brothers. Security personnel reacted and restrained the 73-year-old man after being shot.
“Johnathen was declared dead on the scene by Emergency and Medical Services (EMS), whilst his 55-year-old brother was admitted to hospital,” said Myburgh.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder, soon after being released from the hospital.
