ANC officials visit diabetic elder who fainted at community meeting

The Office of the Chief Whip, Rose Thabanchu alongside African National Congress (ANC) councillors and volunteers, has stepped in to support an elderly Matlosana resident on Tuesday, 4 August 2026 who collapsed due to hunger during a recent political meeting.

The incident occurred during an ANC Candidate Selection Community Meeting in Ward 37, where the elderly woman, who lives with diabetes, fainted. She was subsequently admitted to the hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

In response to the incident, local leadership visited her home to deliver essential food parcels to support her family. In addition to the nutritional relief, the delegation presented her with ANC apparel to honour her long-term loyalty and support for the party.

The Office of the Chief Whip stated that the visit underscores their commitment to protecting vulnerable community members and ensuring local residents are not left behind during times of crisis. Officials concluded the visit by extending their heartfelt wishes for her speedy and full recovery.

“As the ANC, our core identity is rooted in taking care of our elders and ensuring their well-being and health are always prioritized. It is vital that we step in immediately to support our senior citizen who suffered this distressing incident, and we remain dedicated to standing by our community’s most vulnerable people,” said Thabanchu.
