JOHANNESBURG — Orlando Pirates Football Club has officially confirmed the departure of star playmaker Patrick Maswanganyi to Bahrain Premier League outfit Alkhaldiya Sports Club on Monday, 24 August 2026.
The 28-year-old midfielder, affectionately known to the fans as “Tito,” leaves the Buccaneers after establishing himself as a massive fan favorite and a key driving force in the team’s recent successes.
According to a statement released by Orlando Pirates, Maswanganyi was highly valued by the technical team and remained central to their plans for the current season. However, the player explicitly expressed a desire to test himself abroad.
“Following discussions with the player and his representatives, he expressed a clear desire to pursue a new opportunity abroad,” the club stated. “In recognition of his service to the Club and his ambitions for the next chapter of his career, Orlando Pirates agreed not to stand in his way.”
Maswanganyi’s departure marks the end of a highly impactful chapter at Mayfair. Since donning the famous black and white jersey, the creative midfielder won over “The Ghost” (the club’s passionate fan base) with his flair, vision, and match-winning performances.
He leaves the Soweto giants decorated as a league champion, having fully embraced the weight and responsibility that comes with representing one of South Africa’s most historic institutions.
