The mass mobilization brought together thousands of employees, executive leaders, organised labour representatives, and external stakeholders. Gathering across Harmony’s diverse network of underground mines, surface operations, processing plants, and administrative offices, participants united under a singular operational mandate: to eliminate workplace casualties and guarantee that every worker returns home safely at the end of every shift.
The Thibakotsi initiative serves as a strategic cornerstone for Harmony’s broader Zero Harm framework. This year’s safety day focused heavily on practical, proactive risk management, empowering frontline workers to take immediate ownership of their physical environments.
Key operational pillars highlighted during the sessions included Hazard Identification – training teams to spot potential threats before they escalate, Risk Reduction – implementing immediate engineering or administrative controls, Incident Learning – analysing past near-misses to prevent future operational failures, and Procedural Compliance – striking a zero-tolerance policy for bypassing established safety protocols.
Harmony’s executive leadership team used the platform to deliver a uncompromising message to operations managers and supervisors: no production target or operational urgency justifies compromising human life.
