Veteran radio voice Tebogo Leping trades broadcasting for public service

Potchefstroom – Tebogo “Crazy O” Leping, a well-known stalwart of Aganang FM, has announced his departure from the station on Monday, 29 June 2026, after a 20-year broadcasting career.

He is stepping down to become a Ward Councillor candidate for ActionSA, aiming to transition his community advocacy from the radio waves into direct public service.

The official transition comes after extensive engagement with Aganang FM’s management board. The move ensures strict alignment with the broadcasting policies of the station and the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), which mandate the political neutrality and independence of community media professionals.

“I fully acknowledge and respect the regulations of ICASA, as well as Aganang FM’s policies, which guide media professionals and ensure the independence, credibility, and neutrality of community broadcasting.

“The decision to move into public service is a continuation of the work I have always been passionate about. The experience, relationships, and understanding gained from serving the community through media have prepared me for this responsibility. This opportunity will allow me to do more, reach more people, and contribute directly towards building stronger communities,” said Leping.

Speaking on his transition, Leping expressed his gratitude to the station’s management, colleagues, and the broader Potchefstroom community. He emphasized that his two decades at the community station have perfectly prepared him for this next phase of public service.

“Aganang FM has been more than a workplace. It has been a place of growth, learning, and transformation. The experiences, friendships, and lessons gained over these 20 years will remain a valuable part of my life journey.

“The same passion that drove me to serve through the microphone is the passion I now carry into public service. The microphone may become silent, but the commitment to serve continues,” Leping said.

Leping’s passion for public service was a hallmark of his time on air, where he regularly tackled pressing local issues.

By officially joining ActionSA, he embraces the opportunity to address community development, infrastructure, and local governance directly on the ground.

Residents and listeners can continue following his public service updates or verify information about the local ward elections directly through the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).
